Photo Journal: South African Safari

Favorite Snapshots from Kruger National Park

Located on the northeastern part of South Africa, Kruger National Park covers a sprawling 7,500 sq. miles, making it one of the largest safari game reserves in Africa. Most people go to Kruger in hopes of viewing the Big 5 (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo and lion), but the park has an abundance of wildlife. Given my love of elephants, I was excited to learn that Kruger also known for its large elephant population.

Like with any place, there are pros and cons to going on Safari certain times of the year over others. I visited Kruger in December, when the bush was still mostly dry, which made it easier to view hidden wildlife.

During my safari I stayed at Lion Sands. Located adjacent to Kruger National Park in the exclusive Sabi Sands private game reserve, Lion Sands lodges are the epitome of luxury. There are six lodging options to choose from, each with their own unique personality and function. The lodge’s location on the Sabie River makes it ideal for animal sightings. We were lucky enough to enjoy daily sightings from our private deck as well as the main deck! Learn more about my stay at Lion Sands.

I hope these photos from my trip to Kruger National Park inspire you to put a South African safari on your bucket list!
