Because Disney World is for Adults Too!
Growing up Disney World was practically my second home. I started vacationing there with family when I was five and even after 30 years it’s still as magical as ever. After 20+ trips I’ve become the go to resource in my circle for all things Disney. I was recently asked for recommendations on the best Disney World restaurants for adults, which inspired me to write this post. The best part – you don’t have to pay a park fee to get in to any of them!
Disney World is still an annual tradition for my family. We love to visit not only for the nostalgic aspects but also the experiences it has to offer for adults. Whether it’s drinking your way “around the world” at Epcot or going on a private Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, I promise Disney has something to offer for everyone.
Below is my list of top five Disney World restaurants for adults – all chosen for their atmosphere and top notch cuisine. I’ve also included tips for nearby attractions to visit as well as tricks for getting there, especially during the pandemic.
1. Wine Bar George
Wine Bar George is owned by a Master Sommelier and has fabulous small plates and wine pairings. During our first visit my family booked a wine and cheese tasting (led by George himself) and it truly exceeded our expectations. George even provided us with recommendations on his favorite Spanish wineries in preparation for an upcoming trip abroad. Wine Bar also has one of the best espresso martinis I’ve ever tasted – so be sure to save some room after all of the wine! This place has become an annual tradition for my family when we stay near Disney Springs around the holidays.
- Location: Disney Springs
- Price: $$-$$$
- Nearby Attractions: Located in the heart of Disney Springs, so you can spend the day enjoying its shops and amenities.
2. Jiko
Jiko is hands down my favorite Disney dining experience. We went there for the first time as part of a private safari and food and wine pairing. I instantly fell in love with Jiko’s colorful, aromatic South African cuisine and its countless vegetarian options! Jiko also has an extensive top-notch wine list. Fun Fact: the wine is all hand-selected by Wine Bar’s Master Sommelier George Miliotes! Looking for a more casual option with similar cuisine? Try Saana, Jiko’s sister restaurant. You can also get a glimpse of giraffes and other resident wildlife from your table!
- Location: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
- Price: $$$$
- Nearby Attractions: Perfect for visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom (take the free bus from the Lodge). You can also enjoy getting up close to giraffes and other wildlife without leaving the Animal Kingdom Lodge! Book a behind the scenes safari experience at the Lodge for an even more unforgettable experience.
3. California Grill
California Grill is located on the top floor of Disney’s Contemporary resort with views of Cinderella’s castle and the Magic Kingdom. It’s fine dining menu is especially known for it seafood and sushi. Go during the evening to watch the sunset or catch a glimpse of the nightly firework display at the Magic Kingdom. My husband (Noah) and I went here for date night the first time we visited Disney together. We love the restaurant’s outdoor observation deck which makes for a great photo op while waiting for your meal.
- Location: Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Price: $$$$
- Nearby Attractions: Take the Monorail or walk 10-15 minutes to the Magic Kingdom.
4. Flying Fish
Flying Fish is located at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. The Boardwalk is one of my family’s favorite places to stay given its amenities and proximity to Epcot. Flying Fish is somewhat unassuming from the exterior, but once you step foot inside you will be taken back by its stunning light fixtures and décor. Be sure to leave time to take a stroll around the Boardwalk and stop for a cocktail at a neighboring resort. Phins at Disney’s Dolphin Resort and Ale & Compass Lounge at Disney’s Yacht Club are both great options.
- Location: Disney’s Boardwalk Resort
- Price: $$$
- Nearby Attractions: Great proximity to Epcot & Hollywood Studios via the Friendship boat. Flying Fish is also an easy 6 minute walk to Epcot’s International Gateway Entrance.
5. Topolino’s Terrace
Topolino’s is a trendy Mediterranean restaurant located on the rooftop of Disney’s Riviera resort. This is another romantic date night option with top notch service and meal presentations. Grab a post dinner cocktail on its spacious outdoor rooftop terrace and watch the nearby fireworks display from Epcot. My family and I tried Topolino’s shortly after its opening and it was the perfect ending to a magical day in Epcot.
- Location: Disney’s Riviera Resort
- Price: $$$
- Nearby Attractions: Take a six minute scenic gondola ride from the Riviera resort to Epcot’s International Gateway – an experience in and of itself!
Tips Before You Go
A trip to Disney World can certainly put a dent in your wallet, but the great news is that these restaurants are all outside of Disney Parks which means you don’t have to pay for admission. Here are some final tips to help when planning logistics, especially during the pandemic:
- Reservations are a must: Although highly recommended at all times, restaurant reservations at any Disney resort property is required during the pandemic. This applies to all recommendations above (aside from Wine Bar George). You will need to show proof of reservation to get through the security gate at the resort.
- Parking tip: If you are looking to take advantage of the nearby parks, booking reservations at these restaurants is also a great way to take advantage of the convenient logistics. See the nearby Disney attraction notes above for details.
I hope my list of Disney World restaurants for adults is useful! Planning a trip to Disney World? I’d love to hear about your favorite restaurants in the comments!
